Where tropical works

Tropical patterns suit rooms that already have something to answer them: a high ceiling, a large window, dark timber, brass, rattan, a stone floor. In a plain, low-ceilinged room with a beige carpet, a full jungle mural can feel like it belongs to a different house.

They are also unusually good in rooms people pass through rather than sit in — a downstairs cloakroom, an entry, a stair wall. You get the full impact on the way past without living inside it.

Light and green

Green is the colour most affected by the light it sits in. North-facing rooms pull green towards grey and can make a mid-green mural look flat; a warmer, more olive or gold-flecked tropical print holds up much better there. South-facing rooms do the opposite and can make a saturated green feel almost fluorescent in the afternoon.

This is the single strongest argument for a sample. Tape it to the wall for a full day and look at it at breakfast, at three in the afternoon and under your own lamps at night.

How ordering works

Every mural is printed to the wall size you enter, so there is nothing to cut down and nothing left over. Measure the wall at its widest and tallest point, type those numbers in, and the price updates as you go. Every panel is printed with a trim allowance on each edge, free, for a clean finish at the ceiling and baseboard.
