How to test a sample properly
A sample looked at once, in your hand, under a kitchen light, tells you almost nothing. Ten minutes of setup makes it genuinely useful.
- Tape it to the actual wall, not a table and not a different room. The wall behind it changes the color.
- Put it where the design will be, at roughly eye height on the part of the wall you will look at most.
- Leave it for at least three days. First impressions of color are unreliable.
- Look at it at three times of day. Morning daylight, mid-afternoon, and at night with the lamps on. Warm artificial light shifts a color more than most people expect.
- Put your furniture in the frame. Hold a cushion, a throw or a piece of your flooring next to it. Walls are never seen alone.
- Order the rivals together. Two designs side by side answers the question far faster than two designs a week apart.
For Peel & Stick in a bathroom, there is a seventh step: stick the sample above splash height in the actual bathroom and leave it for one to two weeks. If the edges are still down after that, the room has enough ventilation.
What a sample can and cannot tell you
A sample answers:
- What the color really looks like in your room
- How the material feels and how much sheen it has
- Whether the texture suits the wall
- How two candidate designs compare
- Whether Peel & Stick will hold on your particular wall
A sample cannot answer:
- How the design will be cropped. A 12 inch square cannot show you a full wall. Use the preview in the configurator for that; it shows the real crop at your measurements.
- The finished scale. Motifs are printed at the scale they will appear, but a square foot of a large design can look very different from twelve feet of it.
- How the seams will fall. The panel layout is shown in the configurator.
Use both: the sample for the material and the color, the preview for the composition.
From sample to order
Once you have decided:
- Measure the wall. Width and height, three readings each, keep the largest. See how to measure.
- Enter the size in the configurator and check the preview crop.
- Choose the material you sampled. The price per square foot and the total appear straight away.
- Order. Printing takes 1–3 business days and delivery 2–7 business days after that.
Remember that murals are made to order for your wall alone, so they can’t be returned for a change of mind — which is exactly why the sample step exists. Anything that arrives damaged is replaced or refunded in full.
Common questions
Samples are meant to be taped up, peeled off and lived with for a few days, so they are not taken back. At $13.99 each, or $7.00 each for 4 or more, they are the cheapest way to avoid a mural you do not love. If a sample arrives damaged or the wrong material, tell us and we will send a replacement.
Peel and stick has adhesive on the back, needs no water or paste, and lifts off cleanly later, which makes it the usual choice for renters and for anything that changes often. Paste-the-wall is a non-woven paper you hang dry onto a pasted wall. It is thinner on the surface, sits flatter over a large area, costs less per square foot and is built for a long install.
Shipping is free on every order, to every country we ship to, with no minimum and no exception for samples or oversized murals. There is nothing to add at checkout, no handling fee and nothing to pay on arrival — every order ships duty paid. We ship with UPS and FedEx and choose whichever service reaches your address fastest on the day the order is packed.
Plan on 3–10 business days from order to doorstep: printing, then 2–7 business days with the carrier, wherever you are. Remote and island routes can run a few days longer, and customs can add time on international orders. If you are working to an install date, order at least two weeks ahead so there is room for a delay or a replacement.
