Who peel and stick is for
Renters, first and foremost — it is the only material most leases will tolerate. Then anyone who redecorates often, anyone papering a child's room, and anyone who has never hung wallpaper and would rather not start with paste.
It is not the right choice on a textured or chalky-matte wall, or on paint that is less than thirty days old. The adhesive needs a smooth, cured, slightly hard surface to grip; on anything else it will lift at the edges within weeks.
Installing it well
Work top down in vertical strips. Peel back about a foot of the backing, line the top edge up against the ceiling, press it down, then pull the backing away gradually with one hand while smoothing across with a squeegee in the other. Air bubbles lift out — peel back a few inches and re-lay rather than trying to push them to the edge.
It is repositionable while you work, which is the real advantage over paste. If a drop goes on crooked, lift it and start again.
Common questions
On sound, cured paint it comes away cleanly and leaves no residue. On fresh paint, chalky matte emulsion or unsealed drywall it can pull the surface. If your wall was painted recently, wait thirty days.
Years on a suitable wall. It is removable by design rather than temporary — the adhesive holds until you decide to lift it. Kitchens and bathrooms with heavy steam are the exception and are better on non-woven.
It is repositionable during installation, not reusable after. Once it has been on a wall for months and is removed, the adhesive will not reliably take a second time.
