Where it is safe

Anywhere more than a foot from a water source and not directly behind a heat source. That still leaves the wall people actually look at — the one they face while eating, which in most kitchens is a plain painted rectangle doing nothing.

Directly behind a hob or a sink you need a proper splashback. No wallpaper, ours included, is intended for that.

Materials and grease

Textured is the right choice here: it wipes clean with a damp cloth and copes with the humidity of cooking. Premium Textile is a fabric that water marks, so it stays out of the kitchen, and Peel & Stick is the weakest of the rest, because steam and adhesive are a poor combination over time.

Tile, marble and plaster textures are the most popular kitchen subjects because they belong in the room visually, and because grease marks vanish on a busy surface.

How ordering works

Every mural is printed to the wall size you enter, so there is nothing to cut down and nothing left over. Measure the wall at its widest and tallest point, type those numbers in, and the price updates as you go. Every panel is printed with a trim allowance on each edge, free, for a clean finish at the ceiling and baseboard.

Five materials cover almost every wall: Non-Woven if the wall is smooth and the mural is staying, Textured if the wall has small flaws to hide, Premium Textile when you want the print to read like a painted canvas, Peel & Stick if you rent or change your mind often, and Canvas Peel & Stick for a canvas surface that still goes up without paste. Order a sample of any of them first — it is the cheapest way to see how a colour behaves in your own daylight.
