What makes a design watercolor

Pigment moving in water, with the edges left where they dried. The characteristic of real watercolour is that the paper shows through, so the whites are the paper rather than white paint. That translucency is what makes these designs feel light even when the colour is strong.

Making it work in a real room

Watercolour murals are the easiest to add to a room that already has pattern, because the soft edges do not compete. They are the default choice for nurseries and children's rooms, and they work well in bathrooms where the palette suits white fittings. On Textured, the fine emboss stands in for the grain of the paper, which is the closest match to the original medium.
