How blue behaves on a wall
Blue recedes, which makes a room feel larger and calmer, and it is the colour least likely to be actively disliked by anyone who lives there. Cool blues push a north-facing room colder; blues with green or grey in them stay comfortable in almost any light. In a child's room, mid-blues age far better than baby blue.
What to put blue next to
Blue and natural timber is close to foolproof. Blue with brass or gold lifts it towards formal; blue with black and chrome makes it modern. Blue against pink or terracotta is the pairing that has been working for a century and still does.

Common questions
One with green or grey in it rather than a pure or violet blue, which will look cold. Order a sample and check it in the late afternoon, which is when a cold blue turns grey.
As safe as colour gets. Blue is the colour buyers object to least, particularly in mid tones on a single feature wall.
